What happens when you book an edit?

Talk → Agree → Send → Edit → Receive → Review

Each one of my editing projects is a little different, but this page shows you the typical path from first contact to completed edit.

Before the edit

1. We talk, if we need to
Some projects benefit from a discovery call before booking. Others don’t need one. We’ll use it where it’s useful, rather than making it another hoop for you to jump through.
2. We agree the details
We confirm the scope of the edit, the fee, the schedule and exactly what I’ll deliver.
3. You send me your manuscript
You send me the agreed Word file and I take it from there.

Then I get to work

This is the part you don’t see!
I work closely through the manuscript, editing the text and keeping track of decisions, consistency issues, queries and story information as I go.
Sentence-level editing  ●  Consistency checking  ●  Author queries  ●  Style decisions  ●  Story tracking

What comes back to you

The exact files depend on the service you book. For a full line edit, here’s what I typically return.
Clean manuscript with all editing changes accepted
Edited manuscript showing tracked changes
Editorial report with broader feedback on the manuscript
Style sheet recording editorial and consistency decisions
Chapter-by-chapter synopsis of the novel

After the edit

1. You review the edit
You have time to work through the files and consider my suggestions.
2. Questions? Just ask
If anything needs clarification, we can deal with queries after you’ve reviewed the edit.
3. We wrap things up
Where useful, we can finish with an offboarding call.

Terrific. Highly recommended ...
Working with Louise is a delight. The attention, the super quick copy-editing turnaround of the first chapters of my new book – she made sure it was in perfect condition for my agent to submit. This is the third time I’ve worked with her and she’s terrific. Highly recommended.

Brilliant editing ...
Excellent! You really have given it a full wash and rinse! The edits and comments show me the extensive page-by-page work you have done. Many thanks for the brilliant editing.
