An Introduction to Narrative Point of View

LIVE ONLINE WORKSHOP

Learn the foundations of narrative point of view

Understanding the narration styles in a novel is an essential skill for any professional fiction editor.

This live online workshop introduces beginner and developing fiction editors to narrative point of view.

Edit and communicate with confidence

I'll teach you the foundations so you can identify problems, communicate the issues to your clients, and guide them towards solutions.

By the end of the workshop, you'll understand the following:

> What narrative point of view is
> Some suggestions for teaching authors
> The different narration styles in fiction
> Viewpoint and narrative distance

IS this WORKSHOP RIGHT FOR ME?
This workshop is a good fit for anyone who's confused about viewpoint or doesn't understand what it is or why it's relevant to the success of a novel. The following people will get the most from it:

  • Experienced non-fiction editors who want to switch to fiction
  • Fiction proofreaders who want to expand their skill set and move into editing
  • Fiction copyeditors with strong technical skills who want to develop stylistic craft

Experienced developmental/structural editors who are working with fiction will likely already know the topic inside out. Unless you're in need of a foundational brush-up, this workshop isn't a good fit for you.
