The Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) (formerly the Society for Editors and Proofreaders; SfEP) has around 3,000 members (mostly in the UK but the international membership is growing) providing editorial services to publishers, independent authors, companies, government agencies and other bodies.
The Institute provides training and professional qualifications, and publishes an online Directory of Editorial Services featuring members who hold Professional Member or Advanced Professional Member status. The membership communicates with each other via a number of popular closed forums.
Tip: The best time to join is on 1 January – you'll pay the full subscription, plus the processing fee, but you won't have to make any further payments until 1 March, thus getting a subscription lasting 14 months for the price of 12. More details here.
